1.   INTRODUCTION

Boldon James Classifier Client enhances the Microsoft Office suite of products to provide support for email and document protective marking. It supports the labelling of:

• Microsoft Outlook Emails, Meeting Requests and Tasks
• Microsoft Word Documents
• Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets
• Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations
• Microsoft Visio Documents
• Microsoft Project Documents

The label value may be applied as a combination of visual markings and/or metadata as defined by the Classifier configuration, which is managed by the Classifier Administration Console.

The Classifier Client is composed of two separate products:-

• Boldon James Email Classifier
• Boldon James Office Classifier

2.   SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Hardware

• 32-bit or 64-bit PC

2.2 Operating System

• Microsoft Windows 8.1, 10^#1 or 11

2.3 Office

• Microsoft Office 2010 SP2 (32 and 64 bit)
• Microsoft Office 2013 SP1 (32 and 64 bit)

2.4 Pre-requisites

• .NET 4.7.1 framework^#1
• Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2017^#3
• 'Visual Basic for Applications' option listed under 'Office Shared Features' should be enabled
• Microsoft Rights Management SDK 2.1 (Optional, required for 'Track Document' feature)

Notes:
     ^#1 Early versions of Windows 10 may not support the required version of .NET framework, so Windows 10 version 1607 (Anniversary Update) or later is required.

     ^#2 For Outlook 2021, the new simplified ribbon is active by default. Unfortunately, E&O Classifier does not support the simplified ribbon, so in order to provide full functionality, switch back to the classic ribbon.
     ^#3 The installation will install the required x86 and x64 Visual C++ redistributables if they aren't currently installed.

3.   INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Before Installation

• Users must be logged on with administrator privileges.
• Uninstall any Boldon James "SAFEoffice" products before installing this product.
• Uninstall Classifier version 3.4.1 or earlier before installing this version.
• For existing installations of Classifier version 3.5 or later, you can either uninstall the existing installation or perform an in-place upgrade to this version.
• Close down all Microsoft Office applications.
• Classifier installation will warn if it detects active Office applications. NOTE: In Terminal Server environments, Classifier installation cannot detect Office applications active within the current user sessions.

Installation

• Run "setup.exe" from the installation media and follow the on-screen instructions.

Silent Installation

The software can be installed without displaying a user interface using command line options. For example:-

msiexec /i EmailAndOfficeClassifier.msi /qn

Uninstallation

To uninstall follow these simple steps:

• Close down all Microsoft Office applications.
• Navigate to 'Control Panel' > 'Programs and Features'. Right-click Boldon James Classifier in the list of installed programs, and click 'Uninstall'. Confirm this operation when prompted and the product will be removed.

4.   FURTHER INFORMATION

Limitations

Microsoft Outlook
The short-cut keys for switching to the Next Item (Ctrl + >) or Previous Item (Ctrl + <) do not work when Classifier is installed.
This is an issue with Micrososft Outlook when the item is associated with an adjoining Form Region.

Microsoft Word
If a Watermark has been added via an 'add a watermark in this format' rule, the watermark can be copied and pasted onto other documents.
