1. INTRODUCTION
The Boldon James Classifier Reporting Services provides administrators and managers insight into the way that Boldon James Classifier components are being used in their organisations.
Components include.
- Database Management - This component is used to establish the Classifier Reporting Database on a SQL Server.

Reporting Event Log Service - This retrieves Classifier application event log information from the
Windows event log and populates the Classifier Reporting Database.
- Reporting AD Service - This retrieves information on users and computers from Active Directory and populates the Classifier Reporting Database.

Event Channel Wizard is provided to help create Windows event
forwarding subscription.

Configuration Wizard - enables the Services to be configured including
encrypting SQL Authentication passwords.

2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Hardware
2.1 Operating System

Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, or later.
2.3 Software
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1.

The Classifier Reporting Database is supported on any of the
following versions of SQL Server; SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014, SQL
Server 2016, SQL Server 2017 or SQL Server 2019.

The Classifier Reporting Database is not
supported on any version of SQL Server Express.
- SQL Server Management Studio is advisable for management purposes.

3. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Before Installation
-
You are strongly advised to read the
Reporting System Guide to
gain an understanding of the product's components before installing
Classifier Reporting Services.
-
Administrator privileges are needed to install Classifier Reporting
Services.
- The installer cannot detect if .NET Framework 4.7.1 is installed and
the setup will fail if it is not present.
- If you upgrade the Classifier Reporting Services to version 2.1.0 you
must update the Classifier Reporting Console to version 2.1.0 as
well. Previous versions of the Console cannot be used with this
version of Services.
- If you are installing Classifier Reporting Services for the first time,
please refer to the section below entitled
Installing Classifier Reporting Services for the first time
.
- If you are upgrading to version 2.1.0 from versions 1.4.0, 1.4.1
or 2.0.0 please refer to the section below entitled
Upgrading to Classifier Reporting Service
2.0.0 from 1.4.0,1.4.1 or 2.0.
- If you want to upgrade to version 2.1.0 from any of the
following versions; 1.1.0, 1.2.0, 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3, 1.2.4, 1.2.5,
1.2.6 or 1.3.0 you must upgrade to version 1.3.1 then upgrade
to V1.4.1 and finally upgrade to V2.1.0. Please contact Boldon James support for more details.
Install

Classifier Reporting Services for the first time
Run "Classifier Reporting Service.exe" from the installation media which
will launch the Windows Installer and follow the on screen instructions,

Note that Classifier Reporting is licensed by the Classifier
Administration Tool.
Upgrading to Classifier Reporting Service 2.1.0
from version 1.4.0, 1.4.1 or 2.0.0
This section explains how to upgrade to version 2.1.0 from versions
1.4.0, 1.4.1 or 2.0.0 Please see the Reporting System Guide for
more details
1. Stop the SQL Server Agent.
2. Follow the steps in the section below entitled
Uninstall Classifier
Reporting Services
to uninstall the previous version of Classifier
Reporting Service but don't delete the Classifier Reporting database.
3. Install Classifier Reporting Service 2.1.0 by
running "Classifier Reporting Service.exe" from the installation media
which will launch the Windows Installer. Follow the on screen
instructions
4. License the upgraded Classifier Reporting Services
by running the Classifier Administration Tool. If you are upgrading
from 1.3.0 or 1.3.1 you will need a new
Classifier Reporting Services (CRS) licence to licence the upgraded
product. If you are upgrading from 1.4.0 or V1.4.1 you will not need to
re-license the release. Please see the
Reporting System Guide
for
more details.
6. Run the PrepareDatabase tool to update
the SQL database scripts as described in the
Reporting System Guide
7. Restart the SQL Server Agent.
Uninstall Classifier Reporting Services
To un-install follow these steps:
1. Stop the Event Log service or the AD service if you have installed them.
2.
Navigate to 'Control Panel' > 'Programs and Features'. The entry Boldon
James Classifier Reporting Services appears in the list of installed
programs. Select it and click 'un-install'. Confirm this operation when
prompted and the product will be removed.
3. This will not remove the Classifier Reporting Database. The
Reporting System Guide contains details of how to remove the Classifier Reporting Database. Do not remove the Classifier
Reporting Database if you want to upgrade to a later version of Classifier
Reporting Services.
4.
If during the uninstallation a warning is displayed stating that a set
of applications should be closed before continuing, the 'Do not close
application' option should be selected and the OK button pressed.

COMPARISON
WITH PREVIOUS RELEASES
4.1 Classifier Reporting Service 2.1.0
- Support for increasing the number of selectors that can be used in
drill-down charts in the Reporting Console has been increased from 3 to
10. (CSD 00005318)
- Audit labels of '-' are now reported as an empty label at the DATA level and not reported as an error. (CSD
00007713)
- The amount of information sent to the trace and event logs by the
Event Log Service and the Active Directory Service when they cannot get
a lock to write to the database has been reduced.
- Policy settings can configured by the Classifier Reporting
Configuration Wizard (CSD 9344).
- Events 3041 (RMS recipient check pass) and 3042 (RMS recipient check
failed) are supported.
- A new Event
Forwarding Guide has been added. (CSD 00009824)
- All user names are displayed in lower case characters so that if a
username contains upper case characters in some events and lower case
characters in other events, they are not displayed as different users in
reports. This only applies to usernames read into the database from
Version 2.1.0 onwards. (CSD 00010704).
- Application locks have been removed from the index creation and
rebuilding SQL job (Index creation and reorganizing) to
improve processing efficiency.
4.2 Classifier Reporting Service 2.0.0
- The database contains stored procedures to populate the dashboards
and reports of the Classifier Reporting Console.
- Events generated by Classifier for Libre Office are supported by the
database.
- File Classifier warning event (2101) is supported in the database
and the File Classifier view.
4.3 Classifier Reporting Service 1.4.1

A new view called ClassifierReporting4.ActivatedUserStatusSummaryEx
has been added containing to support the updated User diagnostic
report.
-
A new view called ClassifierReporting4.UserResponseActivityEx has
been added to support the updated User responses to classifier
challenges report.
-
A new event called the 'Classifier supplementary information' event
(Event Id: 1007) has been added to Classifier Reporting Database.
This contains information about what versions of Classifier are used
by applications.

The Data Generator tool produces updated sample 'Classifier
Initialised' (Event Id: 1000) events and sample events for the new
'Classifier supplementary information' event (Event Id: 1007).

A new stored procedure called
'ClassifierReporting4.usp_ReportClassifierVersions' has been added
to populate the new 'Classifier Version' report (CSD 00005929).
4.4 Classifier Reporting Service 1.4.0
-
The Classifier Reporting Services is now licensed using the
Classifier Administration Tool. If you are upgrading from an earlier
version you must re-licence Classifier Reporting Services using the
Classifier Reporting Tool (00006889 and 028183).

Errors reported in the ClassifierWorking.Errors table now include a
column that shows the time the error occurred.
-
The Reporting Services Configuration Wizard now supports editing
custom SQL connection strings and defining parameters to manage the SQL
connection.
-
Events from the SharePoint Classifier 3.10 can be stored in the
database. A new view called ClassifierReporting4.SharePointEvents has
been added to display details of SharePoint Classifier 3.10 events.

Events from the Box Classifier can be stored in the database. A new view
called Classifier Reporting4.BoxClassifierEvents has been added to
display details of Box Classifier events.

Events from the File Classifier are displayed in a new view called
ClassifierReporting4.FileClassifierEvents.

Two new views called ClassifierReporting4.ServiceStatusEventLog and
ClassifierReporting4.ServiceStatusActive to display details of the Event
Log and AD services.

Event's original labels are now stored in
ClassifierWorking.SystemEvents table.

SQL Server's Dynamic data masking feature is used to mask data that
could identify individual users. This feature is only supported in SQL
Server 2016 and later versions. See the

The SQL connection between the services and the Classifier Events
Database can now be encrypted. See the
Reporting System Guide for more details (00005305).

AD Extension attributes can read into the Classifier Reporting
Database (00006568).

Classifier Reporting System Guide uses a consistent name for event
subscriptions (00005962).

Classifier Reporting Services now uses Classifier Common Components
version 3.15.136.

Windows PowerShell scripts are provided to install product and
create: SQL database, Event Subscription, AD Security Group and Group

version (1.3.0) and will only start if the database is the correct version.

- Bookmark not working in certain circumstances (00003413).
- Prevent exception when AD DN is empty (00003163).

The Classifier Reporting Database now uses the SQL Server data type
DATETIME2 instead of DATATIME so that it can store times with the same
precision as times are recorded in events. A script called
UpdateTimeFormat.sql has been added to the release to convert time columns
in an existing database from the DATETIME type to DATETIME2 type.

A script called RemoveDuplicates.sql has been added to the release. See

The Event Log Service database connection can be managed by setting
parameters that set the number of write re-tries in a sequence and the
delays between write attempt sequences. See the

New versions of the stored procedures usp_EmailEventsWorkingInsert,
usp_KnownComputersWorkingInsert & usp_KnownUsersWorkingInsert with faster
running SQL has been provided (00002279).

A set of non-clustered indexes has been provided to improve the
performance of the Classifier Reporting Console. See the

Computer records are now merged on the GUID field instead of the Name

therefore parse label configurations created by all common components

subscriptions.

A set of pre-defined XML Classifier event filters are
provided.

The Sample Event Generator program has been updated to
use labels from your published Classification Configuration.

4.14 Classifier Reporting Service 1.1.0

The Configuration Guide has been updated to include
information about using Group Policy Objects to configure event forwarding,
information on how to estimate the size of Classifier Reporting Database and
information on how to create a Classifier Reporting Database by running SQL
scripts.

To improve performance of the Classifier Reporting console,
SQL indexes have been added to the Classifier Reporting database.
-
To improve the security of the Classifier Reporting database,
SQL views have been added so that SELECT privilege does not have to be
granted to Users to run the Classifier Reporting Console.

Management Agent events: the events Configuration update
succeeded and Configuration update failed are now recorded
in the Classifier Reporting Database. The event ids of the Management Agent are
stored in the Classifier Reporting Database as 12000 (Client monitoring) , 11002
(Configuration update succeeded) and 11003(Configuration update failed).

The Event Log and AD services automatically writes
diagnostic events to the Windows Event viewer.

6.2 Unsupported Application Events
If new events are introduced by Classifier Applications that are upgraded

in the Classifier Reporting Console until Boldon James issues an update to the
Classifier Reporting Database.
