(Manual) Installing or upgrading the agent on systems that have Forcepoint F1E

From version 30.7.x of the Forcepoint agent, it is possible to install the agent over existing F1E agent installations.

Use the steps below to install Forcepoint agent on a Windows endpoint system that already has Forcepoint F1E installed.
Note: The upgrade is supported on Forcepoint F1E version 25.04 or later.

Steps

  1. Verify your system is running a supported Forcepoint F1E agent version before attempting the upgrade.

  2. Unzip the downloaded Forcepoint agent installer package. Following files should be present in the unzipped folder.
  3. Obtain the ca.cer and localconfig.xml files from the DLP manager in FSM, located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Websense\Data Security\client.
  4. Replace the ca.cer and localconfig.xml in the unzipped installer package with the ones obtained from the FSM.
  5. In the Forcepoint Portal, for the appropriate profile in Endpoint management > Profiles, verify that the Managed by mode under Data Protection is set to On-Premise, and upload the same ca.cer and localconfig.xml used in the installer package. Ensure this is done in the profile that contains the device on which the agent will be installed.

  6. Run the installer file.
The Forcepoint Agent Setup window opens.
  7. Select I agree to the license terms and conditions and click Install.
The installer displays a confirmation message indicating that the installation has been successfully completed. Upon completion, the files are installed in the C:\Program Files\Forcepoint\Forcepoint Agent directory.
  8. Reboot the system when prompted. (A reboot is only required to upgrade from the Forcepoint F1E agent to the new Forcepoint Agent).
  9. Verify in the taskbar that the F1E agent icon is no longer present, and the new Forcepoint agent icon appears. Click the Forcepoint agent icon to validate the installation.
