What You Need Before You Begin
Check the licenses, accounts, and permissions you need before you start connecting AI applications and business applications.
Setup fails most often because something is missing outside AI Security rather than inside it. Check this list before you begin.
What everyone needs
- An account in the Forcepoint Data Security Cloud Platform with AI Security enabled.
- Administrator rights in that account.
What each connection needs
| To do this | You need |
|---|---|
| Connect Microsoft Copilot | A Microsoft 365 Copilot license with Graph-grounded chat enabled |
| Connect ChatGPT Enterprise | Your organization owner account for that service, so you can create the compliance API key |
| Connect Claude Enterprise | Your organization owner account for that service, so you can create the compliance API key |
| Connect the Atlassian gateway connector | Administrator rights in Atlassian |
| See shadow AI data on the dashboard | Forcepoint Cloud Web Proxy |
| Complete the guided setup | Credentials ready for at least one AI application |
Before you connect Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot can be connected in two ways, and each needs something different from you:
- Microsoft sign-in — you sign in with a Microsoft account that has the required rights, and approve the connection.
- Client secret — you create an application registration in Microsoft Entra ID and supply its client ID and client secret.
Decide which one you are using before you start, and see the topic for that method.
Before you expect shadow AI data
Shadow AI reporting draws on web traffic monitored by Forcepoint Cloud Web Proxy. If your organization does not have Cloud Web Proxy, the Unsanctioned AI Apps section of the dashboard stays empty no matter what you configure in AI Security.
Shadow AI reporting is independent of your app connectors. Connecting an AI application does not enable it, and it does not require any application to be connected.
Confirm your organization has Cloud Web Proxy before you raise a support case about missing shadow AI data.
What you do not need
- You do not need to install anything on your users' machines to connect an AI application. App connectors work through each application's API.
- You do not need to change how your users access their AI applications. They continue working as they do today.
