Adding unmanaged applications

Forcepoint ONE SSE provides the ability to control unmanaged (unlicensed ShadowIT) apps through the use of the forward proxy. Apps can be added on the policies page or direct from your Discovery reports and configured to be blocked, coached, or proxied to turn applications read-only.

Before you begin

You need to setup SWG so that Forcepoint ONE SSE will forward proxy traffic in order to identify and control unmanaged apps. Refer to Set up traffic steering.

In most use cases, most customers will want to review the Analyze > Discovery > Reports to identify the ShadowIT applications their users are using and which ones they wish to control. Once you have identified the ShadowIT applications you wish to control you can add those applications for unmanaged application protection directly from the report or you can add them manually from the Add Apps option.

Follow the below steps to add an unmanaged application to Forcepoint ONE SSE portal.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Protect > Add Apps > Unmanaged Apps.

  2. On the Add Unmanaged App page, click into the Search bar and search for one or more apps that you wish to search for. Anything entered into the search bar will pull up any results matching any of the search criteria.

  3. Click on the application that matches to add it to your policy page.
  4. Now that the application has been added you can begin to configure the policy actions and who the actions will apply to.
