The Forcepoint DLP debug log

Debugging:

Use the Main > Logs > Debug Log page in the Data Security module of the Forcepoint Security Manager to automatically collect the relevant logs for troubleshooting a specific problem.

This feature enables to perform the following functionalities:
  • Enable logging - to enable log topics in config files for selected use case and server(s).
  • Collect logs - to retrieve all relevant log files for all use cases from the selected server(s).
  • Disable logging – to reset all config files to the default state on the selected server, irrespective of the use case selected.
Note: This feature is only available for Super Administrator role.

To start debugging, complete the following steps.

Steps

  1. Select one of the following use cases, which you want to troubleshoot, from Choose use case drop-down.
    • Detection - General: Troubleshoot general detection issues
    • Fingerprinting - Structured: Troubleshoot detection issues related to structured fingerprinting (e.g., database, CSV) classifiers.
    • Fingerprinting - Unstructured: Troubleshoot detection issues related to unstructured fingerprinting (e.g, file system, Sharepoint) classifiers.
    • Detection OCR: Troubleshoot detection issues related to OCR.
    • Fingerprinting - Synchronization: Troubleshoot synchronization issues between the Fingerprinting Repository Master and Secondary nodes.
    • File System Discovery: Troubleshoot issues related to the Crawler component running File System discovery tasks.
    • DB Discovery: Troubleshoot issues related to the Crawler component running Database discovery tasks.
    • Deploy: Troubleshoot issues related to the deploy process.
    • Health Check: Troubleshoot issues related to the HealthCheck component.
  2. Select the servers from Available servers list.
    Note: At least one server must be selected to activate Enable logging, Collect logs, and Disable logging buttons.
  3. Click Enable logging button to enables the log topics in config files for selected use case and server(s).
  4. Click Collect logs to retrieve all relevant log files for all use cases from the selected server.
    The relevant log files will be downloaded as .zip file.
  5. Click Disable logging to make all config files to the default state on the selected server.
    Note: Make sure to disable logging after completing the debugging process.

Telemetry

Use the Telemetry feature to enable automatic collection of anonymized data.

To enable the Telemetry, navigate to Logs > Debug Log, and complete the following steps from Telemetry section.

  • Click Enable telemetry button to enable the telemetry data collection.

  • Click Disable telemetry to disable the telemetry data collection.
Note: In order to perform telemetry, you must be connected to Data Protection Service.
