Installation overview

The process of installing Secure SD-WAN consists of several high-level steps.

  1. Install and configure the SMC and a Management Client.
  2. Download licenses for the SMC components and the Secure SD-WAN Engines, and install the licenses in the Management Client.
  3. If network address translation (NAT) is applied to communications between system components, define contact addresses for the SMC components in the Management Client.
  4. Define the Engines, IPS engines, and Layer 2 Engines in the Management Client. You can optionally define Master Secure SD-WAN Engines and Virtual Secure SD-WAN Engines.
  5. Configure interfaces and routing for the Secure SD-WAN Engines in the Management Client.
  6. In the Management Client, generate the initial configuration for Engines, IPS engines, Layer 2 Engines, and Master Secure SD-WAN Engines. You do not need an initial configuration for Virtual Secure SD-WAN Engines.
  7. If you are not using a Forcepoint appliance that has pre-installed Secure SD-WAN Engine software, install the Secure SD-WAN Engine software on virtualization platforms or third-party hardware.
  8. Configure the Secure SD-WAN Engine software and apply the initial configuration to the Secure SD-WAN Engines.
  9. Create and install a policy on the Secure SD-WAN Engines.
