Getting started with upgrading licenses

When you installed the SMC, the SMC Appliance, or the Secure SD-WAN Engines for the first time, you installed licenses that work with all versions up to that particular version. Each license indicates the highest version for which the license is valid, but the license is also valid for all lower software versions.

A change in the first two digits of the version number indicates a major release (for example, from 1.2.3 to 1.3.0, or from 1.2.3 to 2.0.0). If only the last number changes, the existing license is also valid for the higher software version.
