Set up authentication (Directory Synchronization only)
On the Contacts page, set up authentication for the client machine. We strongly recommend that the client have its own username and password to gain access to the cloud service. This keeps the synchronization process separate from your other administration tasks and enables you to establish longer password expiration policies.
Once you establish a contact for the client machine, you configure the client to pass these logon credentials when connecting to the service.
Steps
- On the main menu bar, click Account.
- Click Contacts.
- In the Contacts section, click Add.
- Enter identifying information for the client machine in the First name and Surname fields. For example, “Directory Sync” and “Client.”
- Click Submit.
- In the User Name field, click here to add a user name.
- Enter a password for the client machine. It must conform to the password policy on the main Contacts page.
- Enter a password expiration date for the client. To avoid having to regularly update it, this should be different than the regular account settings; it should span a longer period.
- Under Account Permissions, check the Directory Synchronization box, and any other permissions you want to give this “user”. You can act as an administrator from this logon.
- Click Submit.
