Summary of the upgrade process

Steps

  1. Read Forcepoint Appliances v8.5.x release notes.
  2. Choose the product module to move.
  3. Perform the procedure below that matches the module you are moving.
    If TRITON AP-EMAIL will move to a new appliance (recommended)
    Important: This is not an option when the appliance is a V10000 and the web protection module is Web Filter & Security. In that case, Web Filter & Security must move. See Move Web Filter & Security and upgrade the appliance.
  4. Set up a new v8.5.x TRITON AP-EMAIL appliance (V-Series or VMware virtual appliance), including firstboot and post-firstboot configuration.
  5. Perform TRITON AP-EMAIL pre-upgrade activities.
  6. On the new appliance, use the Email migration tool to copy email data from the dual-mode appliance to the new appliance.
  7. Remove TRITON AP-EMAIL from the dual-mode appliance.
  8. Perform TRITON AP-WEB or Web Filter & Security pre-upgrade preparation.
  9. On the original, now single-mode appliance, upgrade TRITON AP-WEB or Web Filter & Security.
    1. Upgrade the policy source machine. This may be located on the appliance, or on the Forcepoint Management Server, or on a separate server.
    2. Upgrade the appliance, if not already done.
    3. Upgrade the Forcepoint Management Server, if not already done.
  10. Upgrade the remaining off-appliance components.
  11. Perform post-migration/post-upgrade activities.

    If Web Filter & Security will move to a new appliance

  12. Set up a new V-Series appliance with the same version of Web Filter & Security that is currently running on the dual-mode appliance.
  13. Perform a Web Configuration backup on the dual-mode appliance. This backs up only the Web Filter & Security module.
  14. Restore the backup on the new appliance.
  15. Upgrade Web Filter & Security on the new appliance.

    1. Perform Web Filter & Security pre-upgrade preparation.
    2. Upgrade the policy source machine. This may be located on the new appliance or on the Forcepoint Management Server, or a separate server.
    3. Upgrade the appliance, if not already done.
    4. Upgrade the Forcepoint Management Server, if not already done.
  16. On the dual-mode appliance, install a hotfix to remove Web Filter & Security, creating a single-mode TRITON AP-EMAIL appliance.
  17. Perform TRITON AP-EMAIL pre-upgrade preparation.
  18. Upgrade TRITON AP-EMAIL on the now single-mode appliance.
  19. Upgrade remaining off-appliance components.
  20. Perform post-migration/post-upgrade activities.
