How Data from On-Premises Solutions Reaches the Dashboard

The Executive Overview dashboard in the Forcepoint Data Security Cloud Platform aggregates incident data from monitored endpoints and detected policy violations in on-premises solutions. Understand the key prerequisites that enable data flow to the dashboard.

Before configuring the Executive Overview dashboard, ensure your security infrastructure is capturing incident data. The dashboard displays metrics and insights based on security incidents detected across your organization.

Prerequisites for Dashboard Data

The following prerequisites must be in place to generate data for the Executive Overview dashboard:

  1. Endpoint and DPS Connection

Endpoints must be connected to the Data Protection Server (DPS) to monitor data activities and policy violations across channels. Without endpoint connectivity, no activity data is captured.

  2. Policy Creation

For Forcepoint DLP on-premises, security policies must be configured in Forcepoint Security Manager to define what constitutes a violation. Policies specify rules and corresponding actions (block, quarantine, allow). Without policies, violations are not detected.

  3. Violation Detection

When users attempt actions that match a policy rule, violations are triggered and logged as incidents. These incidents become the source data for the dashboard metrics.

Data Flow to the Dashboard

For Forcepoint DLP on-premises, once incidents are logged locally in Forcepoint Security Manager, they are transmitted to the Forcepoint Data Security Cloud Platform, where they are aggregated and displayed in the Executive Overview dashboard. For Forcepoint DLP Cloud, the alert data is fetched and displayed directly in the dashboard.

Transmission to the Forcepoint Data Security Cloud Platform begins only after the Enable Executive Overview toggle is turned on in Forcepoint Security Manager. See Step 5: Enable Executive Overview Dashboard Generation in Forcepoint Security Manager. For the end-to-end sequence, see Executive Overview Dashboard Generation User Journey: Forcepoint DLP on-premises to Forcepoint Data Security Cloud Platform.

Troubleshooting Empty Dashboards

The Executive Overview dashboard will appear empty until incident data flow is established. For Forcepoint DLP on-premises incident data, if you are setting up the dashboard for the first time and do not see metrics, verify that incidents are being generated and logged in Forcepoint Security Manager before troubleshooting the dashboard configuration.
