Adding a Rule to a Data Security Policy

Give a policy at least one rule, so that it starts detecting sensitive data instead of sitting disabled.

Before you begin

You have created a policy on the Forcepoint Data Security portal.

A policy is a container. The rules inside it are what actually detect anything — a rule defines the pattern to look for and what to do when it is found.

This is why a new policy is disabled until you add one. Saving the Create Policy panel gives you a policy with a name and nothing else.

Steps

  1. On the Forcepoint Data Security portal, open the policy you created.

  2. Select Add.

  3. On the policy editor, select Add new rule.

    The rule editor opens.

  4. Under Rule details, enter a rule name.

  5. Under Condition, select +Add Classifier and add the classifiers that identify the data you want to protect.

A classifier describes the kind of content the rule looks for, such as a credit card number or a named pattern. Where more than one classifier is added, use Condition relations to set whether all of them must match or only one.

  6. Under Action, set the incident SEVERITY and select an ACTION PLAN.

The action plan determines what happens when the rule matches. For the full set of options, see Add new rule to policy in the Forcepoint Data Security Cloud documentation.

  7. Save the rule.

Result

The policy is enabled. It begins inspecting traffic to your connected AI applications, and appears among your active policies in AI Security.
