- Overview
  Policies are key elements that contain rules for allowing or blocking network traffic and inspecting the content of traffic.
- Creating and managing policy elements
  Policy elements are containers for the rules that determine how Engines, Master Engines, and Virtual Engines examine traffic. The policy elements for the Engines include Template Policies, Policies, and Sub-Policies.

    There are some common problems you might encounter when working with policies and the rules that they contain.
  - Manual dynamic updates
    Dynamic Update packages include changes and additions to the system Policies, Situations, and other elements of the SMCaaS Application.
    - Getting started with manual dynamic updates
      It is important to keep the system policies and situations up to date so that newly discovered vulnerabilities can be detected. Changes and additions are provided in dynamic update packages.
    - Dynamic update configuration overview
      Download and activate dynamic update packages using the SMCaaS Application.
    - Import dynamic update packages
      Download the latest dynamic update package and import it in the SMCaaS Application.
    - Activate dynamic update packages
      To introduce the changes from an imported dynamic update package, activate the dynamic update package in the SMCaaS Application.
  - Situation Context parameters
    There are parameters you can define for Situation Contexts.
  - Regular expression syntax
    The SMCaaS Application has its own regular expression syntax. Regular expressions are used in Situations for matching network traffic. Situations are used in the Inspection rules on Engines.

It is important to keep the system policies and situations up to date so that newly discovered vulnerabilities can be detected. Changes and additions are provided in dynamic update packages.
Dynamic update configuration overview
Download and activate dynamic update packages using the SMCaaS Application.
Import dynamic update packages
Download the latest dynamic update package and import it in the SMCaaS Application.
Activate dynamic update packages
To introduce the changes from an imported dynamic update package, activate the dynamic update package in the SMCaaS Application.
