Getting Started

You must configure specific settings to ensure proper co‑existence of the SEA and the F1E agent on the same machine.

Before you begin, make sure you are using SEA version 2.4 or later, which is the minimum version required for compatibility mode. For F1E, ensure that you are running a supported version of the agent based on the current Forcepoint product support lifecycle documentation.

When both SEA and F1E are installed, correct configuration is essential because:
  • Without SEA, managed application traffic cannot be accessed.
  • Without F1E, the proxy will not filter or inspect the remaining web traffic.

To ensure both agents operate correctly, follow the appropriate steps based on your existing deployment:

If F1E is already deployed

  1. Follow the instructions in Configuring Web Security Cloud for agent co‑existence.
  2. At the policy level, ensure the following:
    • Identify the users who require compatibility mode and confirm that they are assigned to the correct Web Security Cloud policies. These policies must be configured to steer managed cloud application traffic via SEA.
    • Ensure F1E auto‑switching is disabled and set to either Proxy or Direct mode.
  3. Deploy SEA agent. For more details, see the Deploying SmartEdge Agent section.

If SEA is already deployed

  1. Follow the instructions in Configuring CASB for agent co‑existence and enable the required settings.
  2. Deploy the F1E agent. For more details, see the Forcepoint F1E Install Guide.

If no agents are currently deployed

  1. Deploy SEA. For more details, see the Deploying SmartEdge Agent section.
  2. Deploy the F1E agent. For more details, see the Forcepoint F1E Install Guide.
Important: Once F1E is installed and the Steer CASB managed cloud apps traffic via the SEA policy setting is enabled in the Forcepoint Web Security Cloud portal, you will not be able to log in to the Forcepoint Data Security Cloud platform portal on that machine until SEA is installed. Therefore, ensure that you download the SEA installer before installing F1E, or download it on another system and copy it to the required machine.
