View the status of appliance configurations

The View Appliance Configuration Status menu option is used to monitor the progress of the zero-touch configuration (the plug-and-play method) for a new Engine appliance. This process enables the Engine appliance to receive its initial configuration without manual intervention.

When a newly deployed Engine appliance is connected to the internet, it polls the SMCaaS Application for its initial setup. To enable this zero-touch process, the following prerequisites must be met:

  • Licensing and Pairing: The Engine's unique factory-stored Proof-of-Serial (POS) code (found in its DMI data) must be paired with the SMCaaS Application Proof-of-License (POL) code (found under Administration > Licenses) within the Forcepoint License Center. The Engine must have a valid license associated with this pairing.
  • Initial Contact: Once the Engine is booted and has internet connectivity, it uses the Engine POS code to request its initial configuration from the SMCaaS Application.
  • Status Monitoring: This menu option allows the SMCaaS administrator to view the status of this cloud-based provisioning process, ensuring the Engine has successfully established initial contact.
