Uninstalling SmartEdge agent from Windows using uninstall key

Steps to uninstall the SmartEdge agent from Windows using uninstall key.

If you have configured settings to prevent users from uninstalling the SmartEdge agent from Windows and you need to uninstall from a device that cannot be updated to allow for uninstall (for example if the device is having network issues and cannot receive the updated configuration), then admins can download an uninstall key that can be run locally on the Window's machine to uninstall the agent.

Steps

  1. In the admin portal, navigate to Analyze > Devices > SmartEdge Agent and then locate the device in question and select it to open the details page.


  2. Under the SmartEdge Agent Settings section, you will see an Uninstall field. Click on theGenerate Key button and a dialog window will appear. Select the time duration the key will be valid for—in days (1-3 days) and/or hours (1, 2, 4, 8, 12 hours). Download the key when ready and note where you save the key.




  3. Copy over the agent uninstall executable to the same folder as that you downloaded the key to. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Bitglass\SmartEdgeAgent and copy the bguninstall executable to the same folder that you downloaded the uninstall key.


  4. Now you can open a command prompt as an admin and then make sure you change directory to the same folder containing the uninstall executable and key. Once done run the following command: bguninstall -k "uninstall_key.txt"

    Make sure that the name you enter for the text doc matches the name of the actual key you downloaded.



  5. Once done, you will see a pop-up window prompting you to verify that uninstall action. Click Yes and then let the uninstall run.
